How to choose domain names More ways
to increase your on-line impact
You probably already know good reasons for registering your own domain name. If not, here are two good ones: 1) It adds credibility to your on-line presence. It shows that you are a serious business user of the Internet 2) It is transportable. Which means that if you change your service provider or web site host, you take your domain name with you. And if you've invested your time and money in promoting your email address and web site address (both on-line and off-line), it can be a major hassle if you've got to start re-promoting them all over again. But choosing a domain name is more than trying to squeeze your company's name into Internet format. Come to think of it - why choose your company name, unless it's a household word? Wouldn't it make more sense to use a domain name which describes what you sell? So if you sell, for example, greetings cards, see if "greetingscards.com" - or "...co.uk" are available. To check quickly what names are available, use this resource here... If you are serious about using domain names as part of your Internet marketing strategy, there's a neat (and free!) bit of software you can download. The Domain Name Analyzer can be downloaded from Softnik Technologies. We use it regularly.
